Authorities have identified the body of a man found in a lake in Gwinett County, Georgia.

A resident discovered the body floating in the lake inside an apartment Complex on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 24.

The Gwinnett Police Department said the body belonged to 34-year-old Derek Oxford, according to an updated Tuesday, Feb. 27, tweet.

Oxford had been reported missing by his girlfriend on Friday, Feb. 23.

After authorities responded to the call and removed the body it was determined to be “deceased and already in stages of decomposition,” according to a news release.

It’s unclear as of writing how long Oxford had been deceased or how long he had been in the water.

Oxford left his home on Feb. 16 to take a walk but never came home.

Police said that his girlfriend mentioned he was drunk when she arrived home from work.

Authorities said preliminary examinations showed that “no foul play is suspected.” There was no evidence that pointed to any suspicious circumstances either.

Neighbors said some children spotted the body first on Friday, but it wasn’t reported until the following day.

“I guess they never told anyone and I guess whoever saw it today decided to call police,” resident Jordan Parker told WSB-TV.

Investigators said they were unable to locate any witnesses and there are no surveillance cameras near the lake.

Oxford was a resident of Lawrenceville.

The family has been notified.
