There wasn’t a dry eye at the auction held in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, over a weekend in early September when participants witnessed generous acts of kindness for a family dealing with tragedy.
On May 5, Ben Keryluke’s son, 35-year-old Brent, and his wife, Nicole Keryluke, 34, died after their motorcycle crashed into a truck near Innisfail, central Alberta. After the accident, the late couple’s children—3-year-old Liam and 6-year-old Arielle—were placed under the care of Ben and his wife, Marilyn.
Liam and Arielle both have hearing impairments, so Ben and Marilyn were in need of money to cover their medical costs, among other things. Hence, to raise the children, the grandparents had no choice but to sell a 1973 Pontiac Parisienne, which Brent had been working on to pass it to his kids one day, to Electric Garage Auctions (EG Auctions).
Incredibly, at the auction, the Keryluke family received a strong show of support from the buyers.
At first, the classic car was sold to Rob McWilliam of Red Deer Motors for $29,000. But amazingly, he decided to donate it back to the family.
It was sold in the second round for $30,000 to Danny Fayad from Edmonton, who also returned the car. And finally, Bob Bevins, owner of Bulldog Metals in Red Deer, bid on the car for $20,000. Again, the car was given back to the Kerylukes.
The buyers tried their best to help the grieving family, and some people also contributed individual donations.
In the end, the Kerylukes earned $100,000 from the auction. The best thing about the day was how the family drove the car back home.
Everyone at the auction was moved by the extraordinary moment of generosity.
“There was a standing ovation, and people were cheering and clapping, and there was tears, lots of hugs, it was amazing,” EG Auctions co-owner Lindsey Payne told rdnewsNOW.
Speaking to Global News, Payne said, “I was crying. Our auctioneer Rod had a hard time getting through it because he was crying. He was emotional.”
As for Ben, he was blown away. He couldn’t thank these big-hearted people enough.
This past weekend 5 lives were lost carelessly to motorcycle accidents in Alberta. Five! Two of those five were our…
“The people at the auction were unbelievable right from the start…,” Ben said. “What all took place was just incredible.”
And the support continued even after the auction. Ben has received calls from kind people across central Alberta and Canada.
Kudos to the generous people who have given the Keryluke family succor and strength! The incredible outpouring show of compassion and support will certainly make a huge difference in helping the family pull through the tough times—emotionally and financially.

EG auctions is proud to present the full video of the 1973 Pontiac Parisienne selling in support of the Keryluke family. Ben and Marilynn Keryluke lost their son and daughter in law, Brent and Nicole in a tragic motorcycle accident last spring. They left behind their young children Arielle, who’s 6 and Liam, who’s 3. These wonderful children are now being cared for by their grandparents. It was their dream to keep Brent’s car for Arielle and Liam but circumstances lead to the decision to sell his car. We wanted to offer our support as they prepared to send the car to a new home. And then…..the loyal EG auctions family of buyers and sellers came together to overwhelm everyone with their generosity and compassion. Please watch as we raise close to $100,000 for Arielle and Liam as the car was sold 3 times. What you don’t see is that Bob Bevins donated the car back to the family after he purchased it for $20,000! The EG AUCTIONS family is standing in support of the Keryluke family as they continue to find a new normal and move forward.
