VANCOUVER—”I think it’s amazing. I think it is very gracious,” said attorney Stefan Stuparu after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts second Vancouver show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Saturday night. The New York-based company has graced the stage of the theatre every year since 2006.
With an all-new lineup each year, Shen Yun has gathered a large following throughout the world and the company’s authentic representation of Chinese culture makes it a hit with Vancouver’s multicultural population.
Mr. Stuparu found it interesting to experience a culture from another part of the world and felt the dancing was representative of Chinese culture.
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture, and dance—particularly classical Chinese dance—is the primary medium used to express the essence of China’s historical culture.
“The performers are very skilled obviously, and I think they have done an amazing job,” said Mr. Shapiro.
Classical Chinese dance is grounded in 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture, and is a dance art form built upon a deep foundation of traditional aesthetics, according to the Shen Yun website.
“They have a lot of moves. A lot of dancing and moving around the stage. I think it was very, very good,” said Mr. Stuparu, adding that he felt the choreography was “just excellent.”
New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has three companies that perform simultaneously around the world. Shen Yun’s Touring Company will play five shows in Vancouver Jan. 10-13, while the New York Company will complete its tour of eastern Canada with five shows in Toronto Jan. 17–20.
