Description

The Epoch Times is seeking a full-time assistant food editor to help shape and execute food content strategy, build and work with a team of writers, and manage day-to-day operations, including editing and occasionally writing a wide range of food and cooking articles for web and print.

In line with the Epoch Times tagline “Truth and Tradition,” our Food section shines the spotlight on time-honored culinary traditions and heritage, while also offering practical home cooking tips, ideas, and recipes to guide and inspire readers in the kitchen.

Stories may include:

-In-depth reported features about food traditions and culture
-Profiles and interviews
-Recipe-based articles and round-ups
-Ingredient, technique, equipment, and other home cooking guides
-Food news and trend reports

The ideal candidate is an experienced editor with top-notch editing, writing, and management skills; expansive culinary knowledge and expertise; and a love for and insatiable curiosity about food, and especially the stories of the people and places behind it.

Duties

-Build and manage a network of freelance writers and recipe developers
-Assign, edit, and occasionally write a wide range of food and home cooking content, including feature articles and recipes, for web and print
-Source photos and collaborate with the design department to create a superior print product
-Help develop and manage a regular email newsletter
-Work with the food editor and writers to continuously generate fresh, engaging, and timely story ideas, in line with our focus on tradition, heritage, and home cooking

Skills

-Outstanding editing and writing skills, for both feature articles and recipes
-Exceptional fact-checking skills
-Authoritative culinary knowledge and kitchen expertise across a wide range of ingredients, techniques, and cuisines; professional culinary experience preferred
-A deep understanding of what makes a clear, accessible, home cook-friendly recipe that works, for a diverse audience of readers
-Excellent communication, teamwork, and management skills
-Highly organized, self-starting, and able to thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment

Job Requirements

-4+ years journalism experience, with at least 2 years’ experience editing food, including developing and editing recipes
-Professional cooking experience preferred (culinary school, restaurant/catering jobs, test kitchen work, etc.)
-A passion for food and home cooking
-Enthusiasm for growing the Epoch Times brand
