For the first time in the main Assassin’s Creed series, there could be a female lead Assassin.

Based on current speculation that AC 5 could take place in 19th or early 20th century Russia, The Inquisitr hypothesizes that the main protagonist may be female.

This is so as a Russian setting will mean that Assassin Nikolai Andreievich Orelov, who lived in that period, or his descendents, are likely to feature.

Nikolai is the illustrious ancestor of Templar villain Daniel Cross.

A few years after the famous Tunguska Explosion (the mystery explained as a Templar plot) in 1908, Nikolai and his wife, Anna, had a daughter Nadya. According to AC lore, Nadya was sent off, and her fate is unknown. This would make her a prime suspect to star in AC 5.

Another source of speculation comes from the AC Initiates forums.

Under the thread “Meet Galina - A new assassin appears during the full moon,“ a female Russian Assassin from Moscow, Galina Voronina, is introduced.

According to a report on the Initiates Database, Galina wants to assassinate her mother, an Assassin scientist who went crazy.

There have also been female leads in the AC spin-offs and animated shorts.

AC: Liberation featured Aveline de Grandpre, and Chinese Assassin Shao Jun appears in AC: Embers.
