MESA, Ariz.—Shen Yun’s opening night at the Ikeda Theater was a success with cultural aficionados enjoying the spectacular colors and beauty.

Among those who enjoyed tonight’s performance was artist and jewelry designer Rani Dutt. Sharing her enthusiasm, Ms. Dutt said Shen Yun was “beautiful, beautiful! The costumes and dances are wonderful and the colors are so pretty.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to restore China’s 5,000 years of rich culture lost due to communist rule. Through the performing arts of dance, music, and song, China’s myths and legends, past and present are brought to life on stage.

What resonated with Ms. Dutt were the folk dances where everyone was welcome to join in, as this reminded her of her native country, India. She also enjoyed the folk dances where the costumes are very colorful.

“Based in New York, Shen Yun is the first company to present classical Chinese dance to the world on a large scale. And it has taken the globe by storm, performing in over 100 cities. Shows in top venues, like New York’s Lincoln Center, are sold out,” states its website.

Shen Yun’s team of digital artists masterfully creates vivid animated backdrops, which give the impression of heaven and earth uniting as one.

As someone who has traveled to China and hopes to visit more of the country in the future, Ms. Dutt especially enjoyed “the way they coordinated the dancing with the backdrops. It’s wonderful.”

Ms. Dutt highly recommends her family and friends to see Shen Yun, saying “it’s beautiful, there is no other word for it … except that.”

Also enjoying Shen Yun was retiree Gerardo Lopez visiting from Mexico City. “The colors were fantastic! The costumes were beautiful,” said Mr. Lopez, further commenting on how much he enjoyed the dancing.
