A suspected Russian spy who allegedly served as the paymaster for the 10 Russian spy suspects arrested in the United States on Sunday, has disappeared after being released on bail in Cyprus.

Christopher Metsos, was arrested on Tuesday while waiting to board an airplane bound for Budapest, Hungary, reported AP.

Metsos had been placed on an Interpol wanted list. “As we had feared, having been given unnecessarily the chance to flee, he did so,” Dean Boyd, a spokesman for the department’s national security division told AP.

“We’re disappointed that Christopher Metsos was released on bail,” said Boyd.

Cyuprus authorities have launched a manhunt for Metsos searching airports, ports, and marinas.

Police noticed that Metsos had disappeared after he failed to show up for a meeting with the police on Wednesday.

Metsos had been released on a $33,000 bail.
