Anna Chapman has been identified as one of 10 alleged Russian spies arrested on Sunday for carrying out long-term, deep-cover espionage assignments in the United States, the Justice Department said on Monday.

All of the defendants were charged with “conspiring to act as unlawful agents of the Russian Federation within the United States,” according a news release by the Justice Department. A crime, which if convicted, carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

All but two of the defendants have also been charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison if convicted.

The arrests come after years of investigations by several government branches including the FBI and the counterespionage section of the Justice Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Farbiarz, says that this is only “the tip of the iceberg” regarding Russia’s plot to obtain information on operations in the United States, reported CBS News.

The accused were arrested in Manhattan and Yonkers, N.Y.; Montclair, N.J.; Arlington, Va. and Boston, Mass.
