President Donald Trump on Wednesday commuted the life sentence of a woman for a first-time drug offense whose cause was taken up by celebrity Kim Kardashian West, and he is prepared to use his constitutional clemency powers to give relief to dozens more convicts, a White House source said.

Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old from Tennessee, has already served more than 20 years in prison on drug conspiracy and money laundering charges. Johnson “has been a model prisoner over the past two decades” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement.

Johnson squealed and cried with joy as she embraced her family outside the prison in Aliceville, Alabama, upon release.

Johnson thanked Trump and Kardashian, whom she called “my war angel.”

“She has truly been relentless in her fight for me,” she told reporters “This is not a publicity thing for her. She has never stopped fighting for me. She’s an incredible woman, an amazing woman.”

“This has been one of the greatest days of my life, the most unexpected thing to happen to me in my life,” she said before making her way home.
