Tired of seeing trash piling up on the side of a waterfront while on his way to work, a Dutch man decided to take action. But what he found out in the end is that other people cared just as much as he did.
It looks pretty bad here:
Still pretty bad:
But after a little bit of this:
And this (help from his friends):
He was able to make a difference:
And there’s more:
In the process, something awesome happened:
Tommy Kleyn told the Metro that he started to pick up the trash and place it into bags and set it next to a nearby trash bin. “I have decided every day to fill a garbage bag with litter,” he said, adding he would keep an update on his progress via Facebook.
After that, his friends joined him to clean up the waterway.
He told the paper: “The trash bags I used came in A PLASTIC SLEEVE. See what I mean? It makes no sense to manufacture a product that has fulfilled it’s purpose as soon as it reaches the consumer from a material that lasts up to 400 years.”
Kleyn said he found only one useful thing, which is a tiny bear-like figurine.
“Picking up trash really disturbed the water fowl, so from time to time, I fed them some bread to show I was not out to hurt them,” he added.
