Will travel for coffee? The scene in Oakland, California, is thriving, and the city has launched a new campaign and visitor’s guide, “Oakland Coffee Rush,” to celebrate it.
Oakland is home to more than 2,300 coffee shops and 17 roasters, offering a variety of unique tastes and experiences. Customers can sip hand-roasted brews in spaces like Red Bay Coffee’s shipping container turned coffee shop; get bicycle-delivered cups from Bicycle Coffee Company’s mobile coffee roasting bike, and learn from hands-on experiences from tastings to brewing and latte art classes.
“What makes Oakland’s coffee culture so unique is our innovative and creative makers,” said Visit Oakland representative Allie Neal. “From the roasting company Oakland Coffee, [which] specializes in organic, sustainably grown, fairly traded coffee served in 100 percent BPI Certified Compostable pods and packaging, to Slojoy Coffee Roasters, offering a ‘pay it forward’ option where you can buy someone a cup of coffee with an inspirational note, Oakland’s coffee makers are creating coffee experiences that you won’t find anywhere else.”
