DJ Avicii, the famed producer who was found dead in Oman last week, had made a prediction about his own death in a documentary.
Avicii, born Tim Bergling in Sweden, once said that “I’m going to die” in an October documentary---six months before his death. He said that if he were to keep playing shows, he warned of his death, Business Insider reported.
The documentary in question was titled “Avicii: True Stories,” released last October.
“I expected support, particularly considering everything I have been through,” he said. ”Everyone knows that I’ve had anxiety and that I have tried. I did not expect that people would try to pressure me into doing more gigs.”
A diagnosis of acute pancreatitis in 2014 left him hospitalized. Avicii had to have his appendix and gallbladder removed.
“You are traveling around, you live in a suitcase, you get to this place, there’s free alcohol everywhere—it’s sort of weird if you don’t drink,” he told GQ in 2013. “I was so nervous. I just got into a habit, because you rely on that encouragement and self-confidence you get from alcohol, and then you get dependent on it.”
In 2016, he announced his retirement from live performances---two years after reportedly suffering a spate of health problems.
It’s believed that he was on vacation in Oman when he died at age 28.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given,” said his representatives in a statement.
