$5,000 might be the most money ever spent on a taxi cab ride, but two men decided that they wanted to pay that amount to ride from New York City to Los Angeles, and see the country along the way.

A New York City cab driver is being paid $5,000 to drive two men from New York City to Los Angeles.

Mohammed Alam, the cross-country cab driver, and his passengers left on Saturday, and by Thursday, they had reached Las Vegas, according to The Associated Press.

John Belitsky, a banker, told AP that he and his friend, Dan Wuebben, wanted to do something “magical” by riding from New York to California.

Belitsky has been documenting his travel via Twitter. “America:just saw all of you. We are resilent, creative and passionate. The sun rises on our fair land for perpetuity. There is no rescession,” he tweeted on Friday.

His final post reads: “The car is quiet. Is it the calm before, or after the storm? Long stares at desert landscapes. Weve seen alot, discussed more.”
