The Washington Post’s food editor, Joe Yonan, shows off five different ways to make peeling garlic easier.

 1. Metal Bowls

Put the bulb between two bowls and shake. It’ll be pretty loud. Almost all of it will peel on their own.

2. Silicon Roller

They’re just sticky enough that when you put the garlic in and roll it, the skin loosens and sticks to the inside.

3. Microwave

After about 20 seconds, the garlic should pop out of its skin when you peel it.

4. Dry Toasting

Of all the methods, it’s the one that smells the best. It doesn’t peel them, but it makes the garlic easy to pop out of the skin.

5. Knife Smash

The old-fashion knife smash. The peel just kind of pops off and then you’re done. Beautiful.

Some Other Garlic Facts

Also called the “stinking rose”, garlic has been around for thousands of years (as far back as Ancient Egypt). It has both medicinal and health as well as cooking uses. The stalks and leaves of the plant are edible; however, any sprouts growing out of your garlic will probably be bitter. It should be stored in a cool, dark aerated-space.
