Mackenzie Moretter, of Shakopee, Minnesota, was upset when none of her fourth-grade classmates RSVP’d to her 10th birthday party in 2015.

“I was sad that no one was coming,” Mackenzie told KARE-TV.

Mackenzie was often alone at school because she suffers from a rare condition known as Sotos syndrome.

“It causes gigantism where kids grow at a faster pace. So Mackenzie is a lot taller than other classmates,” said Mackenzie’s dad, Matthew Moretter.

“Kids are friendly to her, but she doesn’t have friends. No one calls and talks to her. I’ll show up at her school and she will be playing alone.”

The condition also brings about learning disabilities and delayed development, which affected Mackenzie’s ability to socialize.

To Mackenzie’s mom, Jenny Moretter, her daughter has been “a light to everyone that knows her.”

She’s “intelligent and thoughtful, courageous and kind,” and truly deserves a special birthday.

Not wanting Mackenzie to spend her birthday alone, Jenny Moretter set up an event page on Facebook titled “Mackenzie’s Birthday Party.” She invited strangers to join in the celebrations on April 18, 2015.

The response was overwhelming!

“In the saddest days a light comes through,” Mackenzie’s aunt, Tracey Moretter, wrote on Facebook.

The Mackenzie family expected to receive just a handful of well-wishers, but some 300 people flocked to the local park in Shakopee to attend Mackenzie’s 10th birthday party—organized within 12 hours after the announcement on social media.

Not only did hundreds of people show up, they also brought gifts, food, and a banner that read “Happy Birthday Mackenzie.”

At the party, Mackenzie got to meet Snoppy, Elsa from Frozen, Minnesota Vikings football star Charles Johnson, as well as the local firefighters.

Best of all, she got to make new friends!

“I have a hard time making friends, but thanks to you, my voice was heard. I love you all,” Mackenzie told her well-wishers.

Mackenzie had the best day of her life!

Jenny Moretter couldn’t be more grateful to the kindhearted people who took the time and effort to bring the smile back on her daughter’s face.

“A BIG thank you from our family…,” Jenny Moretter updated on Facebook.

“On Saturday, you changed the life of a little girl that many of you have never met. And, you’ve given this mother purpose to spread a message of acceptance, tolerance and love, beyond just our home.”
