15th-Century Voynich Manuscript With ‘Alien’ Characters Might Be Finally Decoded
Scientists said that they might have decoded the Voynich manuscript, a 15th-century text that has baffled historians and cryptographers for decades. Computing scientists at the University of Alberta told Fox News that they are decoding the mysterious manuscript, using artificial intelligence.
Researchers found that it was written in Hebrew. “That was surprising,” said computing science Professor Greg Kondrak in a statement. “And just saying ‘this is Hebrew’ is the first step. The next step is how do we decipher it.” Some of the text was run through Google Translate. “It came up with a sentence that is grammatical, and you can interpret it,” Kondrak explained.
The sentence was translated to: “She made recommendations to the priest, man of the house and me and people.”
They now need to consult someone who knows ancient Hebrew to proceed, Fox reported.
