This year is shaping up to be another exciting one for space after a bonanza of discoveries and celestial events in 2015.

Celestial timing helped people see more of the oldest meteor shower known to Earth, the Perseids, when they peaked 3 a.m. local Thursday.

The closest planet to the sun appears to get hit by a periodic meteor shower, possibly associated with a comet that produces multiple events annually on Earth.
