The signal of three independent Chinese media went down in China on June 17 due to "technical difficulties" with the W5 satellite operated by Eutelsat Communications.

Mainland Chinese who received the three media have urged Eutelsat to quickly restore the broadcast.

Mr. Lai, from Guangdong Province, thinks that the three independent media—NTDTV, Sound of Hope, and Minghui Radio—truly reflect the voices of Mainland China. This is of great concern to the Chinese Communist Party, and many believe this is the real reason behind Eutelsat's "technical difficulties."

"They need to tell us the truth. Although we are common people, we are not that gullible. We need a media which dares to speak the truth. The broadcasting of these three media needs to be immediately restored."

Chinese media have recently focused on the actions of the government during the earthquake in Sichuan and shied away from reporting on the real situation in the earthquake regions. With the Olympics approaching, media control is even stronger than usual.

A resident of Sichuan Province said, "The Chinese Communist Party is only spreading lies. Because these [three] media tell the truth, they are powerful, and that's what scares the government."

A resident of Shanghai said, "Living in Mainland China, we look forward to the truthful reporting by NTDTV. We can't hear the truth from other sources. That's why we support NTDTV."

In 2005, as a result of pressure from the Chinese regime, Eutelsat canceled its contract with NTDTV. The contract was signed later after an outcry from viewers around the world protesting the cancellation.
