CALGARY—After watching the May 2 Chinese Spectacular performance in Calgary, Mr. Liu, a former Party branch secretary of a university in Beijing, poured out his heartfelt acclaims about the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) to his friends. Mr. Liu, who has long admired the DPA, jumped at his friend's suggestion to see the Spectacular .

Liu said, "The DPA is elegant art—every detail is finely crafted. This great of a performance can never be seen in mainland China. I saw many Westerners around me moved to tears. This performance makes the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) disgrace itself. Such a beautiful show that performs globally is not allowed to be shown in mainland China—this thoroughly shows the world how disappointing the CCP is!"

"The general consul Wu Xinjian at the Chinese consulate in Calgary really is rotten. I read that he went to interfere with sponsors of the performance. He acts like a ruffian, not a diplomat," Liu added, "I haven't wanted to see China's "Spring Festival" show for many years. It can't compare with the DPA. [In the "Spring Festival" show], they sing in a flock, with one person singing one phrase here and another singing a phrase there. It's unclear what they are trying to get across. That clown Zhao Benshan goes on every year to mock the Chinese farmers. Why doesn't he portray Chinese cadres instead?"

In response to his friend's query about whether he feared the CCP, Liu said, "Why should I be afraid of it? I used to be the Party branch secretary at a university, so I understand the CCP's bag of tricks all too well. This is a capitalist country and it's not the CCP's territory. I know that the Chinese consulate slanders the DPA and threatens people. It tries to not allow Chinese people to watch the performance. In my opinion, the more it tries to scare people, the more people are interested and those who want to go will go. Many leaders in Chinese community organizations have come to see the show with their family. Just because the Chinese consulate says something doesn't mean everyone will listen. Everyone needs to leave themselves a path. This is not China, and there's no need to overestimate its influence."
