EDMONTON—Amidst enthusiastic applause by the audience, the curtain on the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular rose one last time in the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.

Wednesday's show concluded the dance company's 2008 global tour.

Eva Helgueia, an elementary school teacher who has been to shows in different places around the world, called the Spectaclar "amazing" and said it was the best show she had ever seen.

"I have lived in four countries and I have seen shows in the States, in Spain, and in Israel, and this was really, really good," she said.

Helgueia said the costumes were "amazing" and described the show's two MCs as "perfect."

She also said she enjoyed the fact that the dances are a "group effort" and that the performances are very well-synchronized.

"There must be more than 15 people on the stage at one time, and you can see a perfect line…you can see every line, and it's very symmetric," Helgueia said.

"I like how they move, the movements, very fluid, slow…I really feel like they were in water when they were supposed to be in the water," she said, referring to the performance Nymphs of the Sea.

Helgueia also liked how the show combined historical performances with contemporary events in China. She said the show provided a contrast to the China seen from "outside" after the communist party came into power.

The teacher said she had believed China completely lost its traditional culture but through the Spectacular saw that it had not.

"I wish I could bring my kids [students] to this, it would show them a completely different aspect of Chinese culture."
