BADEN-BADEN, Germany—Mr. Heinz Golombeck, MdB, a member of Parliament and district chairman of the European Union district chapter Karlsruhe, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden on April 14. Mr. Golombeck said, “It’s wonderful. This is the first time that I have seen a show where the dances were so moving. Not only that, this is the first time I have seen a show that tells stories through dance. For example, the scene where compassion was presented so eloquently was amazing.”

He said that the performance was educational, and he wished young people would see it. “This show should be seen by our young people. It would teach them respect of others. This is what Shen Yun teaches all of its audiences.”

According to the Shen Yun website, Chinese dance “is a dance art form built upon a deep foundation of traditional aesthetics. Classical Chinese dance is rich with expressive power. Through expression of bearing and form, beautiful dance movements bring out the inner meaning of intrinsic thoughts and feelings, reflecting the peculiarities of human nature, the standard for human conduct, moral concepts, mental state, one’s value system, and so on.”

Mr. Golombeck said he admired Shen Yun’s innovative backdrop. “It was unique to see the dancers come out of the backdrop and then at the end they return to the backdrop. This was really amazing!”

Mr. Golombeck said that the backdrop was something new, something he has not seen before. But, to understand the connection between backdrop and dance, one had to “concentrate and watch closely every aspect of the dance, only then could one truly understand what the dancers were telling the audience. Also, it was amazing how these dancers could relay feelings to the audience, something rather unique.”

Shen Yun explains on its website, “These digital backdrop designs complement and synchronize all aspects of the performance: the characters, color of the costumes, specific dance movements, props, lighting, the story being told, particular notes played by the orchestra, and special audio effects.”
