NEW YORK—At Staten Island's St. George Ferry's Terminal, the Go Local campaign announced that it would be initiating Gray Line's 55-minute "Staten Island Discovery Tour." The trolley tour will officially begin on July 14 and is setting out to draw crowds from New York and beyond.
"The Staten Island Ferry is one of New York City's great attractions, but each year hundreds of thousands of people who enjoy it never spend any time on the Island outside the terminal, missing out on Staten Island's diverse attractions, beautiful environment and unique history" said Mayor Michael Bloomberg at the opening of the tour of Tuesday.
The tour will be featuring stops at locations such as the Staten Island September 11 Memorial, the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and the Botanical Garden, Fort Wadsworth, the Alice Austen House Museum and Park, while offering views of places such as the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.
"New York City is the iconic destination for millions around the world," said NYC & company CEO George Fertitta. "But we want the people who live and work here to explore and enjoy all their city has to offer."
In addition to Bloomberg and Fertitta, Staten Island Borough President James P. Molinaro and Gray Line New York Sight Seeing President Tom Lewis also participated in the ceremony.
The Go Local movement, which is directed by NYC & Company, New York City's official tourism, marketing and partnership organization, intends to publicize New York's five boroughs, as well as its local attractions and summer programs.
