Largest Fourth of July Fireworks Display Goes Off With a Bang

Tens of thousands gather throughout New York to watch the nearly 30 minute display

NEW YORK-Thousands of spectators gathered tonight for the largest fireworks display in the United States.

All along New York City's East River, especially near the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, crowds gathered for the annual display.

The fireworks were set off in honor of the United States' Independence Day celebrations.The fireworks show, which started at 9:30p.m. and ended just before 10:00p.m., is sponsored by Macy's.

The fireworks were lit from enormous barges floating in the river that were escorted by armed Coast Guard boats. There was also a heavy police presence on the ground, water and in the air for the display.
