LONDON—Rain delayed five-times champion Roger Federer from starting his quarter-final against Mario Ancic at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

Play on the two main showcourts had been scheduled to start at 1200 GMT but drizzle kept the players off court.

Organisers expected the delay to last up to three hours on the ninth day of the grasscourt championships.

Twice grand slam champion Marat Safin was due first on Court One against Spanish left hander Feliciano Lopez.

British hope Andy Murray and twice runner-up Rafael Nadal are second up on Centre Court following the conclusion of the first match between Federer and Ancic.
