Ashraful Century Lifts Bangladesh to 300 in Asia Cup Cricket Championship
LAHORE—Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful hit his second one-day hundred to lead his team to a solid 300 for eight against United Arab Emirates in their Asia Cup one-day match at Gaddafi stadium on Tuesday.
It was the first one-day century for Ashraf in four years—his last was a match-winning effort against Australia in Cardiff in 2005.
It was only the second time in 180 matches that Bangladesh had made a total of 300, their best effort being 301 against Kenya in 2006.
Ashraful avoided taking risks as he dug himself in for a big innings against an innocuous and inexperienced bowling attack which toiled hard on a good track.
His hundred came in 114 balls, but with only three fours, with a glide down to third man off pacer Zahid Shah who finished with three for 49.
He eventually fell in the 45th over, run out for 109 runs after he had put on 141 from 122 balls for the third wicket with Raquibul Hasan who made 83.
