CALGARY—Brian and Cecilia Green were thoroughly impressed with the quality and beauty of Thursday night's performance of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
"I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was very well organized. All the people were well dressed, very colorful costumes. Just the way they floated across the stage; Just beautiful the way it was," remarked Brian, a purchasing manager for a local Oil and Gas firm.
When we asked him what he liked most about the performance, he said, "Probably the drums. They're all in unison, everyone struck in the same time and they moved together. I've never seen a drum performance [before]..."
"The dress and the colors and the way they handle themselves on stage and just the different array of all the different people and how they brought it all together. The backdrops and how everything flowed into the backdrops and from the backdrops."
Brian concluded: "It showed me things that I didn't understand, and it showed some of their culture as to what they believe."
Brian's wife, Cecilia, a cosmetician said she was most deeply impacted by the meaning and artistry the show presented. "Compassion, truthfulness and forbearance, yes it's a beautiful message."
"I have always loved Asian art and this was very special to attend this for me because I have such a thirst for the culture. Because this is meaningful to the Chinese people and what it means to the Chinese people, so I feel the energy from them, from how important it is to them."
We asked what she felt was important to them and she replied, "The meaning behind the Falun Gong and their many, many years of culture that have been passed down through all the hundreds of years through all the different Dynasties and everything. It's very inspiring."
"I think because I don't have the opportunity to travel so much. So this is the way that I get to take from their energy. I can feel what they're feeling for a short period of time in my life where they have experienced it for longer. I get a small window into their world," she said.
"I think this is more meaningful because it's different. It's not what I'm used to, it's more inspiring."
Cecilia also loved the both the shows colors and its unique digital backdrop system.
"The color was just incredible and what they did with the backdrop. The two languages helped myself and everyone else to understand what was going on. The beauty in the pictures in the background ... I can only imagine what they [China] have to offer. Hopefully this is a symbol of it."
