CALGARY—Ed Mills, an oil company Engineer, was among audience members praising the Divine Performing Arts company for its Thursday night presentation of Chinese Spectacular at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary.
"Fantastic, very very good, the costumes, the timing, the song, it's all beautiful," said engineer Mills, who went on to analyze how the show's narrative succeeded without using words.
"It was a story, you could see the story, you could watch the story from the time it started, you knew what was happening. Even though there is no words being said you can see it from the beginning to the end, and you knew when it was over. You didn't have to wait till they stop, you knew it was done, you could follow the story."
Mills came to see the show with his girlfriend Kelly Mashford who works in sales. Mashford also said that she enjoyed the show.
"Great, really good. Even the fabric in the costumes was just perfect, everything is beautiful."
Mashford was also impressed by the Spectacular's innovative live orchestra which blends Chinese and western instruments together. She said she enjoyed hearing different sounds that she wasn't overly familiar with and described the music as "excellent." Mashford described the show's soloist singers as "Really good" and "amazing."
Both said they would "absolutely" recommend the show.
The Spectacular will finish its 2008 international tour with one more show in Calgary on Friday, a quick jaunt to Cleveland for a single show and then three more shows in Edmonton from May 5 to 7. When completed, the Spectacular will have staged in 65 cities on four continents.
