BRISBANE, Australia—On the opening night of the Chinese Spectacular in Brisbane, Senator Mark Furner described the show as "absolutely fantastic!"
Having been to Beijing with his wife in 2000 and seen other Chinese performances in Beijing, Senator Furner made a comparison and described the Chinese Spectacular as "open and true" and "nothing like those in Beijing…that's nothing to compare to what we've seen tonight".
"Certainly a better show here, with everything, and I loved seeing it," he said.
Being able to understand the narratives through the presentation of Chinese classical dance, music and digital backdrops was another key difference between the Chinese Spectacular and the shows Senator Furner saw in Beijing.
"I think that they [narrative stories] were very exciting and easy to follow and understand — not a difficult story line to pick up," he said. "...what they've put in the show was more warming and easier to understand."
Senator Furner has an interest in Chinese culture and described the show as "unique". "Because I have an interest in Chinese culture, I did experience the depth of the culture that came through the show tonight," he said.
'The Mongolian Bowl Dance' was a certain favourite as was the performance 'Nymphs of the Sea'. "I enjoyed the colours and the costumes and the backdrops. I think the choreography was good and I just thoroughly enjoyed it," he said.
Summing up the experience in three words, the senator said: "Absolutely brilliant — outstanding!"
And when asked if he would invite his friends to see the show, Senator Furner answered: "Oh yeah…I would definitely bring them along to see the show."
