SYDNEY, Australia—Mary Shalala, a home loans businesswoman from Strathfield, attended the performance of the Chinese Spectacular at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on April 3 and described it as a breathtaking experience.
"I loved it, beginning to end. I thought it was magical. [I'm] a little bit in awe of everything that I've seen—the costumes, the movement, the gracefulness, the gentleness, the strength, the compassion... all of that in every movement. Every expression of movement has been just beautiful."
Ms Shalala liked the performance about the persecution of Falun Gong [The Risen Lotus Flower]. Through reading about the persecution she was quite aware of it.
"I feel very strongly about that anyway. I think that it was [expressed] quite well...with the torment and the frustration and the faith, and yet the inability to express that faith. That for me was the strongest part," she said.
Ms Shalala continued: "Absolutely spectacular. Beautiful. I'm a bit shocked about how well they work together—the movements all coincide. Everyone was on time, so well-rehearsed and so well-flowing. They make very difficult moves seem so easy... Very gentle to watch and it feels like it takes your heart far away."
Ms Shalala added that she can't wait to recommend it to all her friends.
"I'm more surprised that it's even better than I expected—absolutely fantastic. I would recommend it... one of the best performances that I've ever seen."
Ms Shalala also wanted to say: "If you miss the show, you'll miss the opportunity to experience not just the culture, but deep messages, strong messages and some beautiful skill and talent. Wonderful."
