VANCOUVER—The first Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular to grace Western Canada left an impression on audience members Peter and Corrine Cheney Friday night in Vancouver. The couple recently moved from Ottawa.
"I think it is very well done, very well put across, and a different approach, different idea through so many stage performances, very nicely done, and the old Chinese interpretation really comes through very well," said Peter Cheney, who is a mechanical engineer.
Cheney said the digital background that changes to match each performance "works very well" with the show.
"The background projection is different and very well done, the way it blends in with the actual performance on the stage."
Cheney also enjoyed the choreography and the synchronizations.
"The synchronization and the training that has gone into it to get that many people be that synchronized on the stage, be it the drummers, be it the dancers, everything is beautifully spot on, you never see a false step anywhere, it is extremely professional and very nicely put together," said Cheney, adding that he was "very impressed" with the show.

Peter's wife, Corrine, said the show was "just beautiful" and that she "loved" all the performances.
"We really enjoyed it, like nothing we've ever seen before, very beautiful, and we were just fascinated with it."
Also among members of the audience was the recently-turned 80-years old Arnold Boerboem, who along with his wife Eugenie drove over 4 hours from Summerland to Vancouver to see the show.
"The show was just fine, it was spectacular. We were very impressed by it," said Boerboem.
Boerboem got tickets to the show as a birthday gift from his children on his 80th birthday.
The show was also appreciated by Surrey resident Epp Talstra, who found the Spectacular more than just a cultural show.
"I was impressed by the graciousness and the gracefulness of the dancers themselves," said Talstra.
Talstra said that he found the costumes beautiful and that he enjoyed the drumming performances.
"I think it was very well done, I appreciated the show," said Talstra.
