SYDNEY, Australia—The Chinese Spectacular opened to a packed house at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Wednesday April 2. Present in the audience was actress Katy Manning, best known for her role in the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who.
Ms Manning, also a trained dancer, said the dance movements of the Chinese Spectacular told an "incredible story".
"It's fascinating because it's a way of actually combining a form of, I suppose, gymnastics combined with beautiful dance," Ms Manning said.
"And the whole body, which dancers should always do, is telling an incredible story. And even that story, even though culturally, that story still comes across."
Katy Manning attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in England and trained there as a dancer. She began her TV career in a series titled Man at the Top and went on to play Jo Grant alongside Jon Pertwee in Dr Who. She moved to Australia in the late 1970s.
"They've done a wonderful show, it's beautifully costumed," Ms Manning said. "You can take away with you that which you want; it's like art - you can translate it or you can try to follow and understand.
"Really lovely; I loved it," she said.
