AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Mary Jane O'Reilly QSM, director of the Festival of Dance in Auckland, saw the Spectacular in Auckland, April 18, and found the performances 'very inspiring'.

"It was lovely... very shape oriented... lots of shapes and jumping, she said.

Ms O'Reilly was curious to attend a performance of traditional Chinese dance, and she said and was grateful to have been given the opportunity.

"I am not terribly familiar with it," she said, However, over the years, I have seen a bit of Chinese dance."

"It was really slick and very well rehearsed. Yes, it was wonderful to be able to experience it."

There were many aspects of the show which had appealed to Ms O'Reilly,

"I liked the fabric effect of the sea in the first dance [Nymphs of the Sea] – it was lovely.

"The costumes are fabulous."

She was also curious about Chinese culture and its repression under the communist regime.

"Its very intriguing this whole thing about communism crushing the artists, the culture, and now they [Divine Performing Arts] are trying to recreate it again. Ms O'Reilly said her overall impression of the show was the beauty.

"The dancing was beautiful, I mean they are so beautiful in their physicality, their way of moving is so elegant and beautiful that was my over riding impression"
