AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Secretary of the Kiwi Party, businessman and former Member of Parliament Bernie Ogilvy was among those who attended performance of the Chinese Spectacular at the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, on Friday night April 18, 2008.

Mr Ogilvy commented on what he thought about the show. "I love it, I just loved the music, the delight on people's [performers'] faces, the sense of inner strength, all that!

"The thing what struck me was there's a lot of depth … there's more to life than what goes on at the surface. It's spiritual, the whole area of life," he continued.

When asked what he thought about Chinese culture, he said: "I love it. I think it's got much dynamic, so much history, yet it can be played again today with modern music and technology. It just comes across like it's original.

"Every year I come to this [show] and go to any other Chinese dance and cultural events. Even my wife has been studying the history [of China] around the whole area of the Silk Road … it brings perspective."

When commenting on his favourite part of the show, Mr Ogilvy said: "Look, I'm a man. I loved the last one ['Victory Drums']. I like the drums because it brings out the whole sense, this is a man's thing... you can enjoy it."

When commenting on how the Spectacular differed from other shows he had seen, Mr Ogilvy said: "There's the dynamic of it all. There's the sense of not just doing the performance, but is the performance somehow coming out of there? You know, the unique part is, it's a part of them [the performers] pulsating.

"I enjoy the fact that they [the performers] honour what we are built with—the soul and the spirit. Most of the activity you see by the performance is what the physical can do... you know how agile the body is... but this is much deeper, that's why I enjoyed it."

Mr Ogilvy believed that the message that New Zealanders can get from watching the Spectacular is about truth. He said: "...just as we started off with the singing there—truth is the issue of the whole thing and as we seek the truth, we will find what we are looking for in the end. That sort of story is perfectly fitted to New Zealanders."

When asked what he would say to his friends about the show, he said: "I would say everyone needs to see it, everyone needs to feel it and everyone needs to go and meditate and respond to what's happened."
