The Chinese Spectacular arrived in Tampere, Finland yesterday, wowing audiences in the northern corner of the globe. Anita Anttila and her daughter, Linda, attended from nearby town, Nokia. It was the first time they had seen a performance of traditional Chinese culture, and Ms Anttila was very appreciative.
"It is very, very nice. So many colours, nice dresses. Everyone is so beautiful and they are smiling so beautifully," she said.
So impressed was the retired kindergarten teacher with the choreography in 'The Lady of the Moon', she had to restrain herself from clapping throughout the performance.
Ms Anttila danced competitively in Finland with her brother 30 years ago, dancing the samba, tango, waltz, jenka and polka.
Both mother and daughter thoroughly enjoyed the drums, feeling that the final number, 'Victory Drums', was the best.
"It is seldom that you see that many drums. I want to see more!" Ms Anttila said.
She said songs normally talk a lot about love and found it refreshing that the lyrics in the Spectacular spoke about society. She particularly enjoyed the soprano Bai Xue's performance of 'Auspicious Words.'
"What a nice dress, like a princess! The words are very nice!"
"I think that the background pictures connected to the different numbers are very suitable. The music is different than what I have heard before. It is very calm," she concluded.
