VIENNA, Austria—The Chinese Spectacular, concluded its Viennese performances this evening. The Divine Performing Arts group now continue their travels throughout Europe.
"I have never seen or heard something like this," is a frequently heard comment from the viewers. The same came from Christa Zrzvay who teaches at a French school.
She had become aware of the upcoming performances through an advertisement on the Austrian TV program ORF2.
"I thought this might be interesting, considering the presence of so many Chinese people in Austria at the moment. It cannot hurt to take in something Chinese."
"The show is very nice, full of colors and pleasing - and quite professional. I am enchanted."
The music sounded to her somewhat European, "it was easy to listen to. I could recommend the music to all kinds of listeners."
Besides the music and the piano solos, she liked the ever-changing backdrops, "for instance the bamboo and then along with it the Chinese characters that are intermingled. That is tastefully done, "not with a fist, but with the fingertips."
She liked the water segments and the Mongolian interlude with the bowls best [Mongolian Bowl Dance].
"But as far as the dances are concerned, the one to the drum accompaniment, the last one, was the best. I have to compare this with [presentations in the] State Opera House. I don't know if the optics are better here, but in any event it is more unusual."
Her work brings her in contact with children from many nationalities, including Chinese, and she mentioned that some of them were attending the show today.
After Friday's show in Vienna, the Spectacular will play in Bratislava on Sunday, carrying on to Prague for more shows next week. A total of 35 shows will be seen in 14 European countries.
