VIENNA, Austria—The audience at the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular in Vienna was delighted by the show, which opened at Wiener Stadthalle on Thursday night.
Wilfriede Faus said, “Wonderful .... I loved the show tremendously, very beautiful. I was completely impressed with the show.”
Emily Toppel, a school principal, has been interested in China, and when her daughter found out about the show, they both decided to come. “I enjoyed the show very much,” she said, “It gives me marvelous insight into Chinese culture and I'm totally fascinated.”
Another showgoer, Mr. Bering, said he felt the performers were bringing traditional Chinese performance art back to the stage.
“But, I don't believe that official Chinese channels promote this, because communism is still practiced there.”
He was told about the show by a colleague and said he liked the show very much, especially the “Nymphs of the Sea” and the “Mongolian Bowl Dance” pieces. He added, “The drums were also fantastic.”
“Besides, the costumes were amazing, including in the Tibetan dance scene,” he said.
After another show in Vienna on Friday, the Spectacular will play in Bratislava on Sunday, carrying on to Prague for more shows next week.
