TAMPERE, Finland—The Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular has been gracing the stage of Finland's Tampere Hall for two shows of traditional Chinese music, dance and drama.

Anna Hakkarainen and Iikka Veima, a young couple both studying electrical engineering at Tampere University of Technology, came to the Monday night show and enjoyed the unique cultural experience.

"It was amazing," said Hakkarainen. "I especially liked the Chinese violin (erhu), it was very touching. I liked it very much… It stays in your mind for a long time and is something to remember."

Veima also enjoyed the erhu, a two-stringed instrument known for its wide range of notes and haunting sound.

"I think pretty much the same. I really liked the show, especially the violin and the drums and all the other parts of the show were very good and full of emotion."

"I was into the music – I felt the music like not as if I was just watching the music but that I was in the music," he added.

Both talked about what they learned from the show. "I probably learned more about the culture because I have not seen it very much," said Hakkarainen.

"I learned a lot since I did not know very much about the Chinese culture and the situation. It [gives] a better picture of what is going on and makes you think about it," said Veima, expressing the hope that the situation improve for many who are presently suffering under China's communist regime.

Hakkarainen, who wore a Chinese dress to the event, offered a word of encouragement to the people of China. "There are hard times and there are good times, hold on to the good ones."

Veima said he "could relate technology to the culture. You learn from everything and you can learn that later."

"The passion that they have in their performance, I would say, I would like to have the same passion in my job. Many people do their jobs as a routine and I would like to have some [feelings] of importance in it as well," added Hakkarainen.

The Spectacular is a "once in a lifetime experience," she said.
