KUALA LUMPUR—The Chinese Communist regime's embassy in Malaysia recently succeeded in pressuring the Malaysia government to cancel the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular scheduled to perform in Kuala Lumpur on March 22 and 23.
Without warning, Malaysia's Culture, Art, and History department issued a written notice to the local NTDTV Global Media Network and sponsors of the Chinese Spectacular, calling for a cancellation of the show. In the letter, it states that the reason for cancellation is opposition to the show by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
On January 8, the show's producer and sponsor, NTDTV, received permission for the Chinese Spectacular to be held in Malaysia. Huang Meiyi, a spokesperson for NTDTV, said in an interview that the CCP's actions in Malaysia were interfering with another country's laws, were spoiling the show's presentation of traditional Chinese culture to audiences in Malaysia, and were uncalled for.
"After receiving the cancellation notice, the Malaysia NTDTV Global Media Network appealed to various departments for days without success. Because the scheduled date was approaching, the cancellation announcement had to be made on March 13," said Huang.
She also said NTDTV had formally started promoting the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular on February 21 and had sold more than 2,000 tickets. Tickets had been sold to people from all over Malaysia and neighboring counties such as Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and India.
The Chinese Embassy's admitted reason for pressuring the Malaysia government is that the show, a revival of a traditional Chinese culture which has been much praised by audiences while touring throughout Europe and Asia, has content related to Falun Gong, a spiritual practice brutally persecuted in China for over eight years.
Professional News, Uncensored by the CCP
In addition to news and entertainment programs, NTDTV broadcasts programs on many topics the communist regime wishes to censor inside and outside China, such as any human rights violations in China relating to Tibetans, the persecution of Falun Gong, and the Beijing Olympics.
NTDTV offers news uncensored by the CCP and can be directly viewed by the Chinese public. Because the network adheres to such principles, the CCP has long been interfering with its activities worldwide.
"Because the CCP is an atheist regime, the flawless Chinese traditional Divine culture exhibited by the Divine Performing Arts is what the CCP is unable to accommodate. Therefore, the CCP is making endless obstructions for this everywhere in the world," said Huang.
She said that this kind of interference has not occurred in Malaysia alone. Everywhere the Chinese Spectacular is held, the local CCP embassies interfere with the show and threaten local officials not to attend, often to no avail.
"With all sincerity, we hereby apologize to all ticket buyers of all walks of life who suffered loss because of the cancellation," she said.
"We propose the most severe condemnation and protest the CCP's interference with another country's internal affairs and legal local activities."
The NTDTV Global Media Network also protested that the Malaysia government yielded to the CCP's threats and canceled its permission put on the show under the most unfair conditions.
Huang said NTDTV plans to hold a press conference over the matter.
