NEW YORK—Ron Sablosky read the NY Times article about the Chinese New Year Splendor before attending the show at Radio City on Thursday.
"It was not fair at all," he said. "But, understand, there's a lot of times they do things that are unfair, so this not the first. And if one understands that, then one doesn't worry very much [about] what they say."
Apparently the negative press didn't keep people away from Radio City, because the show continues to play to a packed, enthusiastic house.
Sablosky was one who was not deterred by the NY Times article. "It certainly did not dissuade us from coming, and I don't think it should dissuade anyone, because it really is highly unfair. And it might even be construed as unethical."
Sablosky, a banker and an executive vice president of Business Outsourcing Solutions, is also trained in law. He saw the show with Mary Ann Oklesson, who works in publishing.
Both Sablosky and Oklesson had high praise for the show.
"It was most worthwhile," Sablosky said. "I would certainly tell anyone that is interested in art or dance or music that this is something that they should definitely see."
"It was an inspirational performance, it was very meditative and inspirational," said Oklesson.
"We loved it, we would come again," said Oklesson. "The message was nice."
"I think everyone in the audience had a good time, too," added Sablosky.
Many of the aspects of the show appealed to Oklesson: "The costumes, the scenery, the dance, everything, it was just so well done. It was so nicely done. I even liked the drummers."
Splendor also played an education role for Sablosky and Oklesson, as one of the purposes of the show is to spread authentic Chinese culture.
"It's important to be able to learn and see the cultural aspects of Chinese dance and music and things of that kind," said Sablosky.
Oklesson added, "It was a nice experience from a cultural standpoint as well."
As for the performers, Sablosky said, "They did a wonderful job."
