NEW YORK—Mary Pulibo works in a day care center in Long Island. "I really enjoyed this show. I wish it would happen next year too. It is wonderful! It is lovely."
Mary was particularly attracted by the uniqueness of the traditional Chinese stories depicted in some of the performances. "It was so nice to see all different kinds of stories told on stage. The stories are different from other countries or continents."
"[The] Chinese have been in the world [a] long, long time ago. They have so many things, beautiful things. I love that they still keep their traditions," remarked Mary.
"I was very happy that my husband got the tickets on time and we could always invite friends and recommend it. It is so nice, " she added.
Another member of the audience, Rania, also had high praises for the Splendor : "I love the show. It was very creative. Excellent performance. The music, the songs, everything. I learned a lot about the culture. I will definitely come back to see it again."
When asked about her favorite performance, she did not hesitate: "I loved the men with the drums."
But Rania was also touched by the performances depicting the persecution endured by Falun Gong practitioners in China. "I have no idea about that and I would like to know more."
The Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, Feb. 9.
