THE HAGUE, Netherlands—"I think the show is very beautiful," said Anne, a student, speaking of the Chinese Spectacular currently on tour in The Hague. "It's impressive with its very beautiful and graceful dances. It talks to me very much."

Fully agreeing with Anne's statement was her mother Grace, a doctor, who added, " And I liked the costumes very much."

Grace said she was impressed by the distinct and colorful dances. "I like the water nymph's dance [Nymphs of the Sea]and the way they hid behind the fans—that was very special."

Anne said she "liked the dance with the long sleeves [Water Sleeves] very much. I had seen that before in Eastern movies—the way they accentuate the movements, but compared to what I had seen before, this was high-level."

"I also like the ballet movements—they were very lively. I know how hard it is—I did some ballet dancing myself. Also, the synchronism was very noticeable. Even the height of the dancers—they're all about the same height," Anne added.

"Indeed, said Grace, they made the movements in a very synchronous way and with an equal timing; this made it very beautiful and smooth overall."

"Yes, and like my daughter just said—how did they manage to find dancers that are all about the same height?"

Both agreed that they found much beauty in the show. "Beauty and harmony are definitely expressed through this show," said Grace.

Anne noticed that some of the performances had spiritual themes. "There was a story about changing faith, with two boys who give away their clothes to the [Buddha] statues from the temple, and then all of a sudden, they get a much better life."

Commenting on how the Spectacular doesn't reflect communist culture, Grace said, "I suppose the Chinese government won't like this at all. The show doesn't have any propaganda for the Communist Party."

Josephine, a hospital worker, also attended the show.

"I found the performance fantastic," she said, "I came with my husband, daughter and grandson and they are crazy about it too.

"The dances are marvelous, costumes beautiful and the voices of the singers are fantastic." "We have been in China a few times and we know a bit about Chinese culture, but this really adds to it, especially about my idea of ancient China," said Josephine.

"I definitely recommend people to see the show", she added.
