NEW YORK—Akanya Mumfor, originally from Korea, and Esther Hall from Kenya, both marketing executives with the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut traveled to New York City to attend Friday night's performance of the Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City on an entertainment scouting mission.
They are both involved with bringing world-class entertainment to Foxwoods, and were very impressed with Divine Performing Arts' presentation of the Chinese New Year Splendor.
When asked which performance she liked best, Akanya enthusiastically replied, "I like most everything, the costumes are beautiful, the color combinations are beautiful." She also felt that "Drummers of the Tang Court" has a powerful message "It's like motivation … really powerful. I feel like a 'pow!'"
Esther added, "For me, it's really that you follow the music. It was very beautiful … to the ear, and the choreography is absolutely phenomenal. And the way they fused the instruments, I like that. I also liked the backdrop. It's brilliant. It's all totally animated; it's just phenomenal. It works very well with the performance."
Akanya interjected, "Like, alive—and it makes everything alive. It's a very, very brilliantly done piece of work!"
When asked if ancient Chinese culture is relevant to today's contemporary society, Esther quickly responded, "Definitely, we were just talking about it actually, everything's changing you know. They talk about ancient China, and how everything has been passed down, and it's very relevant now."
Esther continued, "Personally I'd recommend [the Chinese New Year Splendor ] to our players [the casino's clients]. That's actually why we came here, and we want to encourage our players—we might actually, probably bring them to see the show … What we do, we've got a huge performing theater. We're opening one at the MGM [coming to Foxwoods], and that's exactly what we'd like to do, is bring them to Foxwoods to perform for our players."
