NAGOYA, Japan—Tatiana Ivanova and her daughter, Erika, who attended the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular's second show in Nagoya on Sunday, both enjoyed it very much.
Mrs. Ivanova, a housewife who lives in Nagoya, came to the Spectacular after accepting a flier handed to her on the street.
"When I got the flier 2 weeks ago, I knew I would love to go and see it. I wanted to see the traditional Chinese culture; what kind of dance they would perform, and also, I was curious about the costumes."
But after seeing the show it was difficult for the pair to share their impressions. Tatiana repeated the words "Beautiful!" many times, as she tried to express her feelings in words.
"The show was great with beautiful costumes, background scenes, and dancing," she said. "It was all beautiful. I think whoever who did the choreography … and made the costume design is very professional."
Erika, 7, looked a little bit shy but said that her favorite performance was "Forsythia in Spring," a performance which portrays the blooming of Ying Chun Flowers. "I love the dancers with those yellow handkerchiefs; it was very interesting and pretty," she said.
Tatiana looked at her daughter and added, "I'm happy to bring her here; she was very excited during the show—especially during the drumming performance. And actually, I also found it very enchanting."
Mrs. Ivanova commented on the more serious overtones of the show, too. "Yes, I was originally from Russia, so I know about [communism]…. I was there, during the history but I couldn't do anything. I do understand." After its Nagoya stop, the Spectacular will play four shows in Osaka on Feb. 19 and 20.
