One way to say, "I love you" is to serve a chocolate fondue for two, where interacting together while eating can be the perfect dessert date.

This recipe can be adjusted to suit any budget, depending on the quality of chocolate and other ingredients used. The fresh fruit can range from strawberries to less expensive bananas and apples. Purchase delicate amaretto cookies or macaroons, or better still, make your own if you have the time.

Serves 2

  • 175 g milk chocolate, finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup whipping cream

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 1 tbsp orange-flavoured brandy (optional)

  • Small cookies or macaroons

  • Fresh fruit, cut into bite-sized pieces

Combine cream, butter, and brandy in a small saucepan and simmer over low to moderate heat. Remove from heat and add chocolate. Stir until completely melted and smooth. Place in a fondue pot or a small warmed bowl. Arrange fruit and cookies around fondue pot with dipping forks.

If you have any chocolate left over, add some almonds and cashews and spread on baking paper on a baking tray. Put in the fridge to set and you will have an added treat of chocolate nut clusters later in the evening with coffee.
