A couple who walked into Radio City Music Hall from a cold New York winter night were treated to myths and legends from the mystical land of ancient China, portrayed by the Divine Performing Arts' Chinese New Year Splendor .

"Exquisite, beautiful. This beautiful pageantry is so nice to see. The costumes were beautiful, the choreography was beautiful," said Linda Cathey, a computer engineer from New York who attended the Splendor with her husband. Both have been practicing Buddhists for many years.

"The Buddhist inspired dances in particular, I will say that they are awesome," said Cathey. "As a matter of fact, we are entrenched in western culture and values, and it is great to still see such beautiful dancing and pageantry. I would say that anyone who likes Eastern culture would love this show."

Cathey was impressed with the values portrayed in the show.

"A show that asks people to stop, to celebrate kindness and goodness—that is very refreshing. This performance really demonstrates kindness, gentleness, and wholesomeness—values which are pretty rare these days."

She said that when thinking of China nowadays, she thinks of the oppressive communist regime rather than traditional culture, but the show "is a beautiful expression of ancient, traditional culture."

"I think people are lucky to see this show and this classical Chinese dance, even though we may not fully understand the meaning of some parts of it."

"It was beautiful and enriching to watch. I feel in a better mood now."

Cathey said it would be hard to pick which performance was her favorite. She praised the "Fruits of Goodness," about two young punks who went into a temple and had a vision. "The higher beings imparted silent knowledge to them."

The Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, Feb. 9. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: www.DivinePerformingArts.org . The Epoch Times is a proud sponsor of the Chinese New Year Splendor.
