MINNEAPOLIS—Minnesota's first ever performance of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular earned high praise even though the audience had only seen half the show.

During intermission, The Epoch Times asked audience members what they thought of the Spectacular so far.

"I just think the show is mesmerizing, beautiful," said Robin Gulenchyn who practices traditional Chinese medicine as a Shiatsu Therapist. "The performers are very skilled."

Gulenchyn heard about the show through her friend, financial analyst Kat Peterson.

Peterson said she received a flyer for the show when she was leaving Minneapolis's Central Library.

"I knew she would want to go with me," said Peterson referring to her friend Gulenchyn.

The two took turns describing what they liked about the show.

"The drumming was cool," said Peterson.

"The drumming, the fans, and long flowing sleeves" added Gulenchyn.

"The colors are beautiful," said Peterson. "Just the way they kind of float in their dancing is incredible."

"Yeah, it's like they're floating across the stage," agreed Gulenchyn. "It's really pretty. The costuming is really nice, vibrant."

Another audience member, human resource manager Lisa Chang, said she had been waiting for the show to come to Minneapolis for some time. She was aware the Spectacular had been stopping at other cities with larger Chinese populations.

"For them to come here was very interesting. Finally."

Chang said she is half Hmong and half Chinese. Hmong are tribal people from the mountainous regions of Southern China, Laos, and Vietnam.

"I think [the Spectacular ] makes me grow to love my culture more," said Chang. "I do find growing up in America, you're always trying to find your identity, and me being here just brings me closer to my roots.

Chang said she enjoyed all the dances but especially loved the ones with musical instruments.

The Spectacular had it's first-ever Minnesota performance last night at the Northrop Memorial Auditorium.

After Minnesota the show will continue it's global tour of North America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. By the end, the Spectacular will have played to a total live audience of around 650,000 in over 60 cities and 14 countries.

The Chinese New Year Spectacular will be at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago for three performances on Jan. 25 and Jan. 26 along with four performances at San Francisco's Orpheum Theater, at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Jan. 25-26.

Beginning on Jan. 30, the NTDTV Chinese New Year Splendor will play for 15 shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
