SAN FRANCISCO—Susan Melville, Brian Melville, and 7-year-old Justin Melville of Pacifica attended the Thursday night, Jan. 24 presentation of Divine Performing Arts' Chinese New Year Spectacular in San Francisco.
Susan feels like she learned a lot about Chinese culture from the performance.
"I knew that Chinese culture is very rich, but I didn't know quite to this extent and it really, really, amazed me.
"A lot of what this is based on is quite ancient, that's why it is one of the earliest civilizations."
Susan's favorites were the story of the moon goddess and the Tang drums.
Susan's husband, Brian commented, "I enjoyed it, enjoyed the drums the most, very impressive.
"I have seen posters, but it really caught my eye more when I saw it on TV. I saw the highlights on TV and it was very impressive on TV, but even more impressive on stage."
Susan sensed the inner-meaning of the performances.
These are "stories that have a lot of significance in Chinese culture and literature."
It's not too late to attend the Chinese New Year Spectacular. There are four remaining performances at San Francisco's Orpheum Theater, at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Jan. 25 and Jan. 26.
