LOS ANGELES—The magnificence of the Chinese New Year Spectacular delighted the audiences of the final L.A. production at the Nokia Theatre on Sunday afternoon.

As a way to introduce her daughter-in-law, originally from India and most recently from England, to her culture, Dolly Li brought Mamata Chithrika, to the Chinese traditional production.

"It's a beautiful event full of entertainment. I love the dances and the costumes, all the cultural activities," said Dolly.

Explaining the difference between her Indian heritage and her observation of Chinese culture, Mamata said that the colors and jewelry were similar, but she saw a difference in the Chinese dances which she described as "more flowing."

"It brought back many memories for me," recalled Dolly, who grew up in the United States. "Memories of what my mother taught me, movies, and family tradition."

When asked about their favorite parts of the show, "the drummers," Mamata answered, for their "vigor and enthusiasm."

"I have so many favorite parts," acknowledged Dolly. The Spectacular will show next in Las Vegas on Jan. 21, then to Detroit on Jan. 22, and San Francisco from Jan. 23–26.
