A retired aeronautic engineer and semi-professional singer who attended the afternoon performance of Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular said the show went beyond expectations.

Yves Desroches attended the show yesterday at the Place Des Arts Maisonneuve Theatre with his wife Lise Desroches, who was also suitably impressed.

"It was a great show. I am quite surprised. I'd like to come back again really soon," said Desroches.

"The music is fantastic. The dancing, the colors, I have no words to describe it, I really enjoyed it."

He adds, "That was our first (Chinese culture show). We are expecting to go to China really soon. I think we will go sooner than we thought."

Yves says the simultaneous translations were really great because it made it easier to understand the songs. The singers were "fantastic," he said, adding that, as a singer himself, he couldn't have done better.

His wife Lise, said she especially enjoyed the drumming acts.

The Deroches' said they will spread word about the remaining Montreal shows show to all their friends tonight and tomorrow.

The New York-based Divine Performing Arts Company, which presents the Spectacular, will stage its last show in Montreal on Jan. 17 before moving on to Toronto where it will play on Jan, 17, 18 and 19.

The Spectacular will return to Canada in the spring when it will play in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.
