"It gives me a very relaxing and soothing feeling," said Mark Freed, a salesman in his 30s who was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona.

Freed was talking about the Chinese New Year Spectacular which played at the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix for only one show on Monday night Jan. 14.

"It was excellent. It really gave me a good feeling. This show is unique. I was comparing the modern dances these days to these traditional dances, and the ones tonight just give me a peaceful feeling.

"I hope they keep having shows like these," he added.

Freed's sentiments are not surprising, since New York-based Divine Performing Arts, which presents the Spectacular shows as part of its world tour, has said it "aims to provide an experience of consummate beauty and goodness."

Maria, from Tucson, and her 9-year-old daughter drove for over two hours to see the show. She found out about it from her Chinese friend.

"It was spectacular!" she said. "And well worth the trip. I see the good values presented in the costumes, dance, and songs. I read the translation of the songs, and the messages presented were all positive and good.

"We have a big theater in Tucson. I hope it will be there next year so all of my kids can go see it," Maria added.

Her 9-year-old daughter remarked, "I liked it because it has a lot of movements and acrobats. The background was cool and so real!"

People both young and old, and from all walks of life, enthusiastically expressed their satisfaction with the show as they left the performance.

A middle-aged woman with an adopted Chinese girl said as she left after the show, "It was wonderful!"
